En 1625, Leonardo Simonetti publie à Venise un recueil intitulé « Ghirlanda sacra » qui reprend 44 motets dans le « nuovo stile ». Claudio Monteverdi est évidemment mis à l’honneur dans cette compilation au côté de Dario Castello, Giovanni Picchi, Alessandro Grandi (et son célèbre « Quam tu pulchra es »)…
Le programme proposé par les deux artistes fera donc la part belle à la musique sacrée vénitienne et plus largement italienne (Monteverdi, Grandi, Strozzi, Frescobaldi…) mais aussi tissera des liens avec la musique allemande inspirée par ces grands maîtres (Schütz, Buxtehude, Tunder…) dans la perspective d’une écoute renouvelée grâce aussi à des incursions dans le monde contemporain.

Le concert du 9 septembre est dédié aux œuvres vocales d’Heinrich Schütz interprétées par le Chœur de Chambre de Namur sous la direction de Philippe Favette. Arnaud Van de Cauter accompagne le Chœur de Chambre de Namur et interprète à l’orgue des œuvres de compositeurs qui furent inspirateurs ou successeurs d’Heinrich Schütz.
Cet immense compositeur Allemand, décédé il y a 350 ans, est l’une des figures majeures de la musique occidentale du XVIIème siècle. Son œuvre s’inscrit dans la suite directe d’une filiation qui trouve ses racines chez nous, en Flandre, pour se déployer au cœur de la Renaissance italienne (entre autre en la Basilique San Marco de Venise) et revenir ensuite essaimer en Allemagne, jusqu’à Johann Sebastian Bach, dernier et génial héritier de cette longue tradition de l’art de la polyphonie vocale sacrée.

Au XVIIème siècle, les échanges culturels sont intenses. Les peintres, les musiciens voyagent beaucoup. Ils emmènent avec eux leurs œuvres, leurs savoir-faire, et partagent avec les musiciens qu’ils rencontrent. L’Italie, considérée alors comme le centre musical de l’Europe, voit passer de nombreux musiciens attirés par les idées novatrices des grands maîtres tels que Monteverdi, Gabrieli, Frescobaldi…
Avec l’apparition de la monodie accompagnée, peu à peu, la polyphonie traditionnelle tombe en désuétude. Sans disparaître vraiment, elle cesse d’être une priorité structurante du discours musical. D’autres richesses apparaissent, résultant de l’émancipation tardive des paramètres très longtemps négligés : timbres et nuances dynamiques. Dans cet espace de transition, l’orgue joue un rôle moteur puisqu’il est à la fois capable de jouer des polyphonies complexes mais aussi des mélodies accompagnées. L’histoire d’Absalon nous vient de l’Ancien Testament. La musique qui s’en inspire illustre les lamentations du roi David sur la mort de son fils Absalon. L’expression vocale ou instrumentale de la basse est centrale. Ce fil conducteur vous emmène sur les rives de la musique religieuse protestante allemande de la première moitié du XVIIe siècle avec basse, trombones et orgue.
